Duration of internship and timings

3 weeks

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

There were no formalities were required from our side as interns, we were introduced to different police officers who were dealing with this internship process.

The first impression was very nice, when I was introduced to police officers over there I realized that there are good police officers also, who do their job with utmost sincerity and try to resolve the family based cases which are related to women in an amicable way.

What disappointed me was lack of infrastructure. But that’s the problem in almost all lower or middle level government offices.

Main tasks

Basically our task was to attend the counseling sessions and to see which laws are being applied in a particular situation. Most of the problems were coming under the preview of Family Law and and Hindu Marriage Act.

We were asked to observe the trials or say sessions how the family related problems or issues are registered, and how it is tried by the women Cell before they actually reach to the court trials by way of litigation.

We learnt how such problems are solved without litigation, how the statements of the parties to a case are recorded, how it is made sure the those who are illiterate and are unaware of the laws and their rights, specially women and children are provided with solutions.

Though I would not like to call it complete justice, because sometimes a fully justifiable solution is not even present.

Work environment and people

Work environment was supportive and the people were just amazing, they kind of changed my view about the normal thinking about the police staff we have and I realized that they try a lot, what I didn’t like was lack of training of such people.

The police officers assigned on such duties should b trained in a well manner and they should also b thought the law at least up to that level which is required for them to know to do complete justice to there work.

Best things

Best thing was the staff and the officers, they were so accommodating, paid full respect to us and made us feel comfortable so that we can actually learn about the working of that organization.

This was probably the first time when I witnessed a proper working amongst the police officers.

Bad things

Lack of infrastructure and a little more of informal ways of dealing with the parties to the cases and the delay which they caused in providing us with the internship certificates.

Stipend

No stipend

Biggest Lessons

That there are many loop holes in our legal system, specially the family law. Most of the laws are inclined in the favour of women and are misused by them, and many a times the women are not able to get full justice despite of being so many laws in the favour of women.

The biggest lesson was not a subject related but related to life when a saw a divorce case of a rich and educated family, that you got to be really strong enough to fight for your rights no matter what is your family background and how famous you are, you just can’t keep quite and tolerate everything just because you might get infamous because of getting engaged in family trials.

Any Other Thing

On and all it was an good and is full experience where I learned many things not just related to my field of study or law but related to life, it kind of changed a lil bit of my view of life.

Most importantly there’s a need of regular training for employees engaged in such duties and that rules and laws are required to be more refined.
